Sometimes you just don’t know where to start. The answer should always be fundamentals. If you want to learn how to play Mozart, you have to go through “Mary Had A Little Lamb”. If you want to paint like DaVinci, you have to start by picking up a brush. In order to learn to read and write you must learn the characters of the alphabet. Some things just can’t be avoided.
Fundamentals are there to educate us.
After some foundation we then must learn to take what we have absorbed and throw it out the window.
The people that truly stand out in style and substance are those who know the rules, but set them aside in order to create something of passion. The fundamentals are there to train, but should never constrain.
